Talent is something all parents want their children to have. In reality, I believe, there is no kid without a talent. It’s just a matter of determining your child’s strength and gift, and helping him or her develop it. Some of us may prefer a specific gift for our kids, but we shouldn’t force it upon them if they don’t have it. Doing so just might hinder the development their true craft. Your child’s personality may even be affected if you get too pushy.
One of the talented kids that caught my attention just recently is Connie Talbot, a 6-year-old girl with an amazing voice and the most adorable smile. She was a finalist on the first series of Britain’s Got Talent. On all of her performances, “nasty” Simon Cowell has nothing but praises for her, she’s that good. And cute.
I swear I had to hold myself back from crying when I heard her angelic voice.
Here’s the video of her first performance at the screening of BGT. Take note of Simon Cowell’s mood before Connie sang, and how it changed the moment he hears her voice.
Connie’s family has never been able to afford to give her singing lessons. They recently felt so bad about that that they bought her first karaoke machine.

I’m pretty sure her parents are so proud of her. And why not? The kid’s exuding with confidence without being arrogant, oozing with cuteness without even trying. Look at her famous, so adorable toothless smile.
And you know what’s even cuter? Connie didn’t style her hair, wore almost no make-up at all, and wore the simplest dress and shoes. I admire her mom for letting her perform on stage in a very simple get up. She didn’t try to make her child dress up like a grown up, like most moms tend to do when they’re kids perform onstage. Way to go, Mrs. Talbot!
Connie didn’t win the grand prize of £100,000 and performance at the Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen and members of the Royal Family at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool, but I don’t think it mattered to her. She drove the female judge to tears and brought out the “nice” side of the notorious Simon Cowell in every performance. I think that’s an accomplishment enough for a six-year-old. All throughout the contest, Connie said singing in the competition was like a dream and she’s enjoying every bit of it. The innocent little child that she is, she didn’t show a bit of nervousness nor was she intimidated by Simon or her fellow contestants.
I guess what makes her performance very unique from the rest of the contestants is that she didn’t need fancy movements or rehearsed facial expressions to get your attention. She simply stood there, sang her heart out, and touched the hearts of anyone who can hear her. Her angelic voice does the job.
I applaud Mr. and Mrs. Talbot for instilling confidence and simplicity in their little girl. They must be very proud of their little angel.

simon cowell is right about her sweet smile and her amazing voicebut i think she was not to young and she should of won.and also paul potts had a croaky voice and moved alot.
Melissa, I believe paul potts did a fine job. It’s better that Connie /didn’t/ win, because if she had, think of the effect it would have had on her. It would have caused more pressure for her too. She was just happy to sing in the contest, she didn’t care about winning.
I LOVE HIP HIH
