My apologies to my more “fashionable” counterparts, but I really don’t understand the concept of buying rubber slippers worth almost a thousand pesos (about US$25).
Well, I admit I myself own a pair, but it was a Christmas gift and I hardly use it because I am still quite satisfied with my 40-peso slippers that I’ve had for more than a year now.
I hear people raving about these slippers. I see people wearing flaunting them all over the place, as if wearing those expensive rubber footwear should mean that the people wearing them are more superior than me.
They’re rubber slippers, for Christ’s sake! And no matter how much they cost, no matter what you call them, THEY ARE RUBBER SLIPPERS.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against people who patronize these products. If you have the money and you feel like spending it on these “flip flops”, then by all means, go for it. What makes my eyebrows raise are people who obviously buy these things as an attempt to take a step higher in the social ladder. Those who obviously wear these golden slippers just to get noticed. Believe, there are people like that. A lot of them.
Sorry for the ranting, but I just can’t imagine myself buying something that’s worth my son’s milk supply for a week when I can get something of the same better - meaning more durable and practical - for a looooooot less. And I simply don’t like the idea of overhearing people ranting about how “poor” they are, how small their salaries are, but you see them wearing those thousand-buck slippers.
Maybe I’m waaaay behind when it comes to fashion, but as a mother, I’d rather be practical than fashionable. I mean, yeah, I still want to be fashionable to be presentable, but just up to some extent. And wearing rubber slippers outside of the house is not one of them.
Oh, and you know what I hate more than those buying overpriced products to get noticed? Those buying IMITATIONS of these overpriced products and insist they’re the real thing. As an attempt to take a step higher in the social ladder. It’s just so pathetic.

i was bloghopping and i found this.
i totally agree with you on this. for me it’s not about the price, it’s about the usage.
i mean, come on! i see people going to work in these, i once went on a date with somebody and she came in one of those. so instead of some fancy dinner i was planning, i took her to someplace “less fancy” for fear of being denied entrance.
i hear she’s calling me a cheapskate now
oh well..
oh, and another thing, if you plan on wearing these, please, PLEASE make sure you got nice feet (clean them at least, specially the toenails :P)
keep it up!
I agree!
Ako I don’t have a pair, but I bought one for the little girl. Heehee, pamper the little one…
i totally agree. I don’t have a pair but I don’t buy the cheap imitation, either. It’s not just practical esp. for a mom with a tight budget, right? I’d rather save that 1000pesos for a nicer pair of shoes.
