The Pakistani Spectator interview

Aug 23, 2008 Author: User ImageMommyOnTop | Filed under: Blogging, People

In one of my recent posts, I received a comment from the owners and founders of a site called The Pakistani Spectator. It is a site that takes “a candid look on everything happening in and for Pakistan.”

They requested for an interview. I must admit, I was hesitant at first because I haven’t heard of the site. However, when I saw what their site is all about, I told myself, “If there’s one site I would take time to promote and give exposure to, this is it.” Their yearning to make people aware about what’s happening in their country is admirable.

So I readily answered the interview questions.

Dealing with depression

Jul 2, 2008 Author: User ImageMommyOnTop | Filed under: Issues, People

woman-depressedThere have been too many things in my mind lately. I wanted to write them all down here, but for some reason, I don’t know where to start.

A member of our support group had miscarriage about a month ago. She’s fine, but she’s wondering why she’s feeling “normal“. “I’m supposed to feel depressed, right?” she asked the group.

Below is part of my private message to her. I’m posting it here because I believe that what I said can be applied to everyone who have suffered loss, to those who are enduring hardships, and to those dealing with dismal episodes in their lives.

Tito and Jenna sitting on a tree…

Feb 19, 2008 Author: User ImageMommyOnTop | Filed under: People

tito-jenna01.jpgThe stress I’ve been experiencing since last week has drained away my creative juices and left me with nothing to rejuvenate this blog with.

Anyway, I do not follow mixed martial arts fighting as religiously as a big fan does, but I do know some personalities and I try to watch every chance I get. Same thing with porn. C’mon, give me a break. I’m a married woman.

So why am I saying this? I’m probably waaaaaaaaaay behind the news but I just found out that Ultimate Fighting Champion legend Tito Ortiz has been dating “the world’s most famous porn star,” Jenna Jameson, apparently since 2006.

Check out this video of the couple being lovey-dovey, after signing autographs for fans.

Amusing Anecdote #1

Feb 13, 2008 Author: User ImageMommyOnTop | Filed under: Funnies, People

Here’s an amusing anecdote, sent by a friend.

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner.

I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, “If I give you this money, will you buy shoes with it instead of dinner?”

“No, I’ve been walking barely with my feet years ago”, the homeless woman told me.

“Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?” I asked.

“No, I don’t waste time shopping,” the homeless woman said. “Besides, I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.”

“Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?” I asked.

“Are you NUTS !” replied the homeless woman. ” I haven’t had my hair done in 20 years!”

“Well,” I said, “I’m not going to give you the money. Instead, I’m going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight.”

The homeless Woman was shocked. “Won’t your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I’m dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting.”

I said, “That’s okay. It’s important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and shoes.”

I don’t totally agree with the punchline, but heck, I could use the good laugh right now.

Connie Talbot: talented 6-year-old angel

Feb 11, 2008 Author: User ImageMommyOnTop | Filed under: Parenting, People

connie01.jpgTalent is something all parents want their children to have. In reality, I believe, there is no kid without a talent. It’s just a matter of determining your child’s strength and gift, and helping him or her develop it. Some of us may prefer a specific gift for our kids, but we shouldn’t force it upon them if they don’t have it. Doing so just might hinder the development their true craft. Your child’s personality may even be affected if you get too pushy.

One of the talented kids that caught my attention just recently is Connie Talbot, a 6-year-old girl with an amazing voice and the most adorable smile. She was a finalist on the first series of Britain’s Got Talent. On all of her performances, “nasty” Simon Cowell has nothing but praises for her, she’s that good. And cute.

I swear I had to hold myself back from crying when I heard her angelic voice.

Here’s the video of her first performance at the screening of BGT. Take note of Simon Cowell’s mood before Connie sang, and how it changed the moment he hears her voice.
